On this Rock

Even though the disciples saw Jesus doing things that only God  could do they still didn’t understand who he was until God revealed it to Simon. Then Jesus changed his name to Peter and then said on this rock I will build my church. The name he gave to Simon was Petras which means a stone or a fragment of rock. He did not say he would build his church on Petras/Peter that would lead to all kinds of heresies, false teaching and idolatry; which it has done.

He said he would build his church on Petra which means a huge rock face or the edge of a mountain. Jesus is the Petra, the Rock of salvation and the cornerstone of our faith. He builds his church by God revealing him to unsaved people and if they respond and acknowledge him as their Saviour Messiah they join Gods family and  become living stones (Petras) with the same DNA as the Jesus the Rock.
